London made Low Carbon Economic Area
The number of Brits investing in their homes could be set to rise after London was named as a Low Carbon Economic Area.
It is the seventh city in the UK to receive such status and will see a focus placed on retrofitting buildings to make them more environmentally-friendly.
The hope is that skills will be learned in the capital which can be passed on to other towns and cities in the UK.
National Home Improvement Council director Andrew Leech explained that everyone in the city and beyond can make a difference by improving their own home.
He suggested that London could set an example for others and that there are certain steps every homeowner can take to make their house more efficient.
"One of these is to fully insulate the house. If you have cavity walls, these need to be insulated, if they have lofts these also need to be insulated," Mr Leech said.
In other news, technology has been developed which sucks the hot air out of conservatories and re-distributes it around the home.
