York cafe to build conservatory
A popular York cafe could be set to build a bespoke conservatory in an attempt to remain financially viable.
According to Cafe No8 worker Martin Gore, the owners wish to build the glazed extension in order to have more tables under cover, the York Press reported.
The eatery has just seven tables inside at present and, while is it currently has nine in its garden, it hopes to expand in order to accommodate more customers during periods of bad weather.
A previous application for planning consent was knocked back, but the cafe's owners hope that the new plans will be accepted, allowing it to continue its success story.
The venue has won a number of awards over the years, including the best restaurant from York Tourism in 2006.
Mr Gore told the newspaper that the cafe was relying on being able to seat more customers indoors in order to continue to trade at a competitive level.
He added that the plans would not actually increase capacity - they will simply allow more diners to be protected from the elements.
Cafe No8 is located at number eight Gillygate and serves dishes such as Ryedale ice cream and Masham sausages.
