Kitchen extensions should be designed with storage in mind, study suggests
Homeowners looking into kitchen extensions should make sure that they make best use of the new space and are wary of keeping vitamins where there is any moisture.
With growing numbers of consumers looking into the benefits of kitchen extensions as they look to increase their storage space, a new study carried out in the United States found that improper storage means that many people are missing out on the benefits of vitamin supplements.
The research, which was undertaken by a team at Purdue University, found that vitamin supplements stored in a kitchen cupboard could become next to useless within the space of just one week as the humidity causes pills to degrade.
As such, homeowners need to ensure that they stock their cupboards accordingly, with kitchen extensions often best for creating more living or entertaining space, rather than for providing more storage room.
Writing the research up in the Journal of Agricultural Food and Chemistry, lead researcher Lisa Mauer concluded that gone-off vitamin pills are nothing more than 'candy' with high sugar content.
