Floor-to-ceiling glazing on Islington office redevelopment

15 January 2010

The effects of a sky light or roof light have been achieved on a curtain walling development in Angel, north London.

Allford Hall Monagham (AHMM) has used floor-to-ceiling glazing on the five-storey office building, which also uses a monochrome colour scheme, Building Design reported.

The glazing is clear and features light-grey fritting and is encased in black frames and spandrel panels, allowing the maximum amount of natural light to enter the building.

Bespoke-designed, the curtain walling also allows the building to be more energy-efficient and sustainable, with it having secured a 'very good' rating from Breeam.

Employees don't have to feel shut-in either, as a number of windows can be opened, despite the office complex's position on a busy London junction.

Wade Scaramucci, AHMM's associate director, told the website that he wanted as much natural daylight to enter the building as possible.

"We also wanted bigger windows to see the mature trees on all sides," he commented.
