'Iconic glass atrium' to be feature point of new Cardiff university building

25 November 2009

The new home of the Cardiff School of Management will be one of the most 'iconic' buildings in the country, thanks largely to its stunning glass atrium focal point.

That is according to the company behind this latest addition to the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (Uwic) campus, Wilmott Dixon, which has just celebrated the 'topping-out' of the £20 million building.

While the inside of the school will boast world-class teaching and research facilities, it is the building design itself, and particularly the unique glass roof and glazed canopies that have prompted the most excitement in the Welsh capital.

Managing director of the construction firm Neal Stephens told the Western Mail: "The facilities on offer at the new school will be outstanding but the building itself also has an iconic design with striking features.

"A feature point of the centre will be the glass atrium which runs through the entire length of the building and we will clad the exterior walls with copper cladding."

Meanwhile, the National House-Building Council in Wales has reported a marked increase in homebuilding rates across the country, with this likely to boost demand for conservatories over the coming months and years.ADNFCR-2746-ID-19479913-ADNFCR
