Heat wave warning reiterated

29 June 2009

The Met Office has reiterated its health warning to Brits over the expected heat wave this week.

While some may be fortunate enough to be able to spend the warm weather in the garden and conservatory, many others will be heading off to work - and the body charged with predicting weather patterns for the UK has urged everyone to keep cool.

Parts of England will see highs of above 30 degrees C and temperatures in places are unlikely to fall below 18 degrees C at night.

"We have been working closely with the Department for Health to develop this service, which is aimed at those vulnerable to high temperatures, especially the elderly," explained head of health forecasting Wayne Elliot, describing how the last heat-health watch warning was issued three years ago.

The Met Office has said the chance of heat wave conditions has risen to 70 per cent from 60 per cent last week.

While the garden may be a pleasant place to enjoy the sunshine, some may also have to retire to the conservatory, with thunderstorms predicted in some areas.

London, the east and south east of England are said to be most at risk of overly warm conditions, while northern parts are less likely.ADNFCR-1496-ID-19241655-ADNFCR
