Homeowners 'back' energy saving measures

20 April 2009

The majority of homeowners back government plans to cut carbon emissions through residential energy saving measures, according to the Department for Energy and Climate Change.

Chancellor Darling is soon to reveal the caps for the country's first three carbon budgets as the government gets set to pit its Big Energy Shift plans into practice.

Seven million homes will be offered "whole-house" upgrades of energy-efficient and micro-generation technology over the next 11 years.

Over the next decade, every home in the UK will be offered the same measures as part of plans to reduce the nation's environmental impact.

Energy-efficiency is an important part of reducing carbon emissions and those considering buying a new conservatory may therefore decide to opt for one that retains heat and cuts draughts.

"People are enthusiastic and positive about the need for better energy efficiency in our homes and communities," explained energy and climate change secretary Ed Miliband.

A conservatory can help make the most of the garden during the summer months and the Guardian recently examined how green-fingered Brits can save money while improving their outdoor space.
