Signs of market recovery could spark home improvement race
The housing market may be showing signs that it could be beginning its long road to recovery.
If this is the case, homeowners may consider adding a conservatory or glazed kitchen extension to help their property stand out from the crowd if ever the time does come to sell.
Recent figures from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) show that interest in the housing market has increased for the fourth consecutive month.
The data shows that buyer enquiries rose by 20 per cent during February and Rics spokesman Jeremy Leaf suggested that it could only be a lack of mortgage availability that is holding the market back.
"Potential buyers continue to come through estate agency doors but without mortgage finance, transaction levels are likely to remain close to all-time lows," he said.
A new conservatory or extended kitchen could be a major selling point, especially with the UK set to experience warmer conditions in the coming years thanks to global warming.
Rics was established over 140 years ago at an 1868 meeting in London's Westminster Palace Hotel.
