Glasswork artists Jeffrey Sarmiento and Ingle Panneels are to design a new glazed map of Liverpool, which will be donated to the Museum of Liverpool.
The work was commissioned by the Liverpool Daily Post following almost a year's consultation and research.
It will show a representation of where Merseysiders believe Liverpools borders extend to.
"We are so pleased to be chosen," said University of Sunderland artist Ms Panneels.
"When I read the brief, I thought the type of layered glass work we do will be perfect for such a project, because it enables us to incorporate many images and words.
"We are very excited about coming back to Liverpool to complete our research and get started on the piece."
The project is expected to 'reflect the multi-faceted character' of the city and 'highlight the changes in Liverpool through time', according to Museum of Liverpool curator Georgina Young.
The newspaper will now conduct a global vote to establish which areas and landmarks from around the world should be included in the glazed map of Liverpools influence.
