Leeds to get new glazed 'gateway'

A building in Leeds is to get a glass facelift after being dubbed the 'worst eyesore in Leeds', according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

City House was built in the early 60s and stands above the city centre Leeds City Station.

The building will be redeveloped by Kenmore Property Group and will be entirely re-clad with full height 'glazed curtain' walling.

Civic architect for Leeds John Thorp said that as a gateway to the city, it is important that City House appears attractive.

"The refurbishment of City House is important due to the prominence of the building at the entrance to our city for many visitors and business people," he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"The new City House will provide sustainable office accommodation, with very strong links to public transport.

"It will transform a 1960s building into a striking architectural statement on the city skyline."

The office block was originally designed by John Poulson, who was later involved with bribery claims, and will now be re-developed into a more aesthetically pleasing first impression of the city.
