Cadbury's development 'a jewel'

A new development by Cadbury's has been described as a reassertion of the confectioner's commitment to art and design.

Writing in the online pages of the Birmingham Post, sector commentator Terry Grimley explains that the £30 million Bournville Place - a redevelopment of a former 1920 dining block - is "a jewel".

"Perhaps its most spectacular features are the vast floor to ceiling windows which on a sunny day - I have been there twice and the sun shone on both - give an arresting sense of being simultaneously indoors and outdoors," he comments.

A number of glazed installations have also been incorporated into the structure, including one by Erika Isaak which consists of ten irridescent sheets of glass which change colour at different points of the day.

In other news, noted architect Lord Rogers - whose projects include the Pompidou Centre in Paris - was recently made a Companion of Honour in the Queen's birthday list.
