'Glass tornado' to hit Qatar
A glazed tornado-shaped office building is to be established in Qatar, it has been reported.
Online resource the Peninsula notes that a series of teaser ads regarding a tornado about to hit the Doha region of the country were distributed in print media over recent days.
Following a press conference, it was confirmed that the tornado is a 52-storey, glass-rich office building which is due to be opened in November.
"Our glazing allows those inside to have a clear view of the Corniche and the city while the glazing's sun-reflecting qualities help save energy," Robinson Pourroy from German consultants SIAT tells the publication.
The resource explains that the design of the glazed edifice - which will include a health club, parking and retail space as well as offices - was inspired by a desert storm.
In other commercial design news, online resource PSFK recently noted that retailer Muji opened a new shop which makes extensive use of glass in its design in the New York Times building in Manhattan.
