Consumers have been advised to employ a professional to help them ensure that home improvement work they wish to have carried out - such as the installation of a conservatory - is done in an effective and timely fashion.

Financial services provider Halifax Home Insurance states that in doing so, they can also ensure that work is carried out to a standard that they are happy with.

David Rochester, head of underwriting at the firm, comments: "Indeed, employing a qualified tradesperson to complete complex renovation projects is vital if householders don't want to risk invalidating their insurance policy if a problem occurs."

The firm's comments follow the publication of figures which indicate that over 1.7 million Britons have been living with an unfinished home improvement project for a period of more than two years.

In related news, the Daily Telegraph recently published a story in which industry commentator Nick Allen noted that an increasing number of people are taking inspiration from television DIY shows.

As such, people are taking a greater interest in improving their homes through investments such as conservatories.
