Notting Hill grand designs

An interior designer created her home from a structure that "was truly a wreck" into a luxurious villa.

Online resource the Independent explains that Tricia Guild's Notting Hill home mirrors her style and use of colour at her workplace - Designers Guild.

She tells the publication that the building was originally "five floors of bedsits" but that it allowed her to work on a blank canvas.

A circular sky light was installed at the top of the building to provide illumination to the hallway and stairwell and the ceilings were also raised to create an enhanced feeling of space.

The centrepiece of the house is a "dream" master bedroom which features his and hers walk-in wardrobes and a freestanding stone bath which is separated from the sleeping area by glass sliding doors.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph recently examined one of the properties which is on the shortlist for the title of best British home, noting the use of a modern colour scheme with period features such as stained-glass door panels.
