End of submissions for Grand Design Awards

The entry deadline for submissions to the Grand Design Awards 2008 has arrived and the judging process has begun.

In the competition there are five categories - Best New Build, Best Restoration, Best Conversion, Best Redesigned Home and Best Eco Home - with the winner of each section to enter a final public vote to determine the Grand Designs Home of the Year.

Marks out of ten will be awarded to entries based on a range of criteria, including function, innovation, sustainability, originality and aesthetics, the organisers explain.

The judging panel is made up of a range of industry and design experts including Wayne Hemingway, George Ferguson, Pooran Desai, Will Alsop and George Ferguson.

As part of the this year's event, the title of Grand Designs Product of the Year will also be awarded - with categories including Best Kitchen Range, Best Bathroom Range, Best Interior Styling Product and Best Furniture Product.
